This map service, derived from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data, displays all hurricane, tropical storm, and tropical depression points in the Atlantic and East Pacific Basin's from 1851 to 2011. Tracks and points in the East Pacific are available from 1902 to 2011. The tracks are grouped by maximum category and the thickness indicates the category within each track. The layers are scale dependent so the weakest maximum category storms are shown at the largest extents. This service portrays the dispersion and frequency of separate category strength hurricanes over time.  Hurricane strength is shown by its Saffir-Simpson scale. Not all track points contain pressure information and are labeled with a 0. Storm Nature is classified by five abbreviation types:ET: Extra TropicalDS: DisturbanceNR: Not RatedSS: Sub TropicalTS: Tropical StormFor more information: National Hurricane Center______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Other Federal User Community federally focused content that may interest you Department of Commerce                               National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Open Data: USDOC                                           Open Data: NOAA
